Faculty Development
At the UC San Diego Department of Anesthesiology, we are committed to fostering a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive academic environment where all faculty can thrive. Our Faculty Development Program is designed to empower faculty across all career stages — from early-career physicians to senior clinicians and educators — by providing the tools, mentorship, and opportunities necessary for personal and professional growth.
Our philosophy centers on the belief that excellence in academic medicine is best sustained when faculty are supported not only in their clinical and scholarly pursuits, but also in their well-being, leadership development, and work-life integration. We aim to nurture each faculty member’s potential through a range of targeted initiatives, including:
- Structured Mentorship: All junior faculty are matched with trained senior mentors who have been trained through the Faculty Mentoring Training Program (FMTP), ensuring tailored guidance and career planning support.
- Wellness: Our departmental wellness program provides resources and community aimed at sustaining well-being, preventing burnout, and fostering connection. The UCSD Physician Wellness Program provides confidential mental health support, peer coaching, and professional development resources to promote physician well-being.
- Leadership Development: We actively encourage and support participation in local and national leadership training opportunities in collaboration with the UCSD Office of Faculty Affairs.
- Promotion Support: We provide clear, accessible tools and individualized support to help faculty navigate the promotion process with confidence and clarity.
By investing in mentorship, scholarship, wellness, and leadership, we aim to create a culture of collaboration, advancement, and long-term academic success. Our department takes pride in the accomplishments of our faculty, and we are deeply committed to supporting each individual’s unique path forward.
