At the Department of Anesthesiology, we are committed to advancing the art and science of anesthesiology through compassionate patient care, pioneering research, and transformative education. Over the past decade, our department has experienced remarkable growth. Today, we are proud to have Clinical Faculty with internationally recognized clinical, research and educational programs in Acute Pain, Advanced Airway Anesthesia, Cardiothoracic Anesthesia, Critical Care Anesthesia, Global Health & Policy, Liver Transplant, Neuroanesthesia, Obstetric Anesthesia, Pain Medicine, Pediatric Anesthesia, Perioperative Informatics, Perioperative Anesthesia, Regional Anesthesia, Simulation Education, and Thermal & Electrical Injury Anesthesia. Our faculty oversee operations for Jacob's Medical Center, Thornton Hospital, Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center, UCSD Hillcrest Hospital, the newly built Komen Outpatient Pavilion, the VA San Diego Medical Center, and the Rady Children's Hospital of San Diego. We practice in a collaborative Anesthesia Care Team model including Faculty, CRNAs and Residents.
In addition, our non-clinical Research Faculty are at the forefront of groundbreaking discoveries in neuroscience, pain, cardiac protection, regenerative medicine, gene therapy, meditation science, and more. Funded by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, the Veteran's Medical Research Foundation, private foundations, and industry partners, our research laboratories are dynamic centers of innovation. They provide a rich training environment for clinical and research trainees of all levels. Our faculty play vital roles in the admissions process and educational leadership at the UC San Diego School of Medicine, helping shape a curriculum that prepares future leaders in medicine.
