Our Mission
The mission of the UC San Diego Center for Pain Medicine (CPM) is to:
- Make every effort to specially tailor the treatment plan to the patient's personal needs and objectives
- Provide a multidisciplinary inpatient and outpatient pain service devoted to the highest level of individualized patient care
- Create awareness among faculty, residents, and affiliated staff of the services provided by the UC San Diego Center for Pain Medicine
- Improve the understanding of the mechanisms of pain through quality, peer-reviewed research into the physiology, pharmacology, and molecular biology of nociceptive processing
Our Multidisciplinary Team
Our multidisciplinary team of pain specialists provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of chronic pain (including spine, musculoskeletal, nerve, and joint pain), headache, cancer pain, spasticity and more. The UC San Diego Center for Pain Medicine offers the most advanced pain treatment options available in a compassionate and supportive environment.
Pain is a major problem in clinical medicine with profound effects on physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. It is estimated that 3 of 4 patients seek the help of a medical professional because of pain, yet instruction on pain management in our medical schools has historically had a low priority, which has lead to a poor understanding and the under treatment of pain. Recent advances in our understanding of pain, headache, and spasticity have lead to new therapies and technologies to reduce pain and suffering, return maximum level of function and independence, and restore quality of life.
