Multidisciplinary Critical Care Fellowship

About the Fellowship

Thank you for your interest in the Anesthesiology Critical Care Medicine Fellowship at UC San Diego! Our goal is to provide our trainees with outstanding clinical experience in the management of all types of critically ill patients, including cardiovascular, general surgical, oncological transplant, neurosurgical and medical patients at one of the premier institutions in the country. Our center performed more than 90 heart transplants, 50 lung transplants, and 140 liver transplants last year, with some of the best survival rates in the country. In addition, UC San Diego is a major referral center for a number of conditions, and one of the busiest ECMO centers in the region.

We provide our fellows with a multidisciplinary educational experience, in combination with our other critical care fellowships (Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Surgical Critical Care, and Neurocritical Care), including a state-of-the-art simulation center. We enthusiastically consider fellowship applicants from Anesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics/Gynecology through the SF Match.

In conjunction with our Adult Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology division, our fellows receive extensive education in both transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography, and are encouraged to pursue board certification in Basic or Advanced Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography and Critical Care Echocardiography.

We hope that you will consider joining our critical care team in " America's Finest City!" Please don't hesitate to reach out to learn more about our program and our institution.
